Purpose: This research examined the  compliance with of professional codes of ethics public library staff  in the province of Yazd in years 2010-2011.
Methodology: The research method is descriptive. Population consists of librarians of public libraries in the province of Yazd in 2010-2011.The sample was estimated 111 by using Cochran's formula. Simple random sampling method was  employed. A researcher-made questionnaire was used. The face validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by specialists in the field and using Cranach’s Alpha the reliability of the questionnaire was estimated 0.86.At descriptive statistics level frequency, percentage and mean and standard deviation was used.
Findings: The results showed that respecting clients with 4.56 mean, to consider library work valuable with 4.63 mean, and protecting library equipment with 4.65 mean were among the highest. All components were higher than average.
Originality/values: The topic of professional ethics has received special attention in library and information literature.  Earlier, codes of ethics considered by Iranian and non- Iranian researchers were based on textbooks ethics. In this paper the components of professional ethical codes of the Public Libraries Foundation are used.
