Abstract

Purpose: To draw a scientific map and make a cluster analysis of published articles relating to the field of public libraries using the documents indexed on Web of Science.
Methodology: This research is an applied study using co-word analysis method. The statistical population consists of all articles relating to "public libraries" which have been indexed on the Web of Science, and numbered 1164. Data analysis was performed using three software programs of BibExcel, VosVeiwer and NetDraw.
Findings: Data analysis showed that the key words of "Public Libraries- University Libraries", "Internet- Public Libraries", and "Library Services- Public Libraries" were the most frequent key words among the studied texts. Moreover, cluster analysis of keywords showed that 11 key clusters were generated from the keywords in question, and "Social Issues", "Social Media", "Information Storage And Retrieval Technologies", "Health Information", "Books and Related Issues", "Library Policies", "Resource Sharing", "Social Interactions of Libraries", "Relationships with Other Types of Libraries", "Development and Censorship in the set", And "Management" were the most important tendencies of researchers in the field of public libraries at the international level.
Originality/value: The evolving nature of information sources and the changing needs of the audience as well as social issues and challenges affect the content of research in the field of public libraries. In the present research, these changes were observed while studying the literature during three ten-year periods. Of the most significant findings of this research is that the emphasis of public libraries studies has shifted onto the topic of information behavior of patrons and thence onto social issues. It seems that these shifts have not only been environmental effects but also attempts to realize the global mission of public libraries, i.e. customer orientation. Furthermore, since no similar study has been conducted in this area thus far, the findings of this research can help understand a clear picture of these changes and developments in the field of public libraries.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between psychological well-being and work overload with the moderating role of perceived organizational support among librarians of public libraries in Isfahan province during 2020-2021.
Method: This study is a descriptive correlational study with a sample of 202 librarians of public libraries in Isfahan province, who were selected by simple random sampling. In order to collect data, the questionnaires of Ryff’s Psychological Well-Being (1995), Spector & Jex Work Overload (1998), and Eisenberger and others’ Perceived Organizational Support (1986) were used. The reliability coefficients of these questionnaires through Cronbach's alpha were 0.92, 0.94 and 0.95, respectively. To analyze the findings, descriptive and inferential statistics, and Smart-PLS3 and SPSS software version 22 were used.
Findings: The results of correlation coefficient showed that the components of psychological well-being have a significant negative relationship with work overload (p < 0/05). The moderating role of perceived organizational support between these two variables was also confirmed. Findings also showed that the moderating variable of perceived organizational support has a significant effect on the intensity of the relationship between psychological well-being and work overload, as when there is high organizational support among librarians, their psychological well-being is higher and their work overload decreases.
Originality/value: Examining the relationship between psychological well-being and work overload with the moderating role of perceived organizational support among librarians in public libraries in Iran and abroad has been very innovative, and so far, little research has been done on this issue. In addition, in the present study, the moderating role of perceived organizational support has also been considered. On the other hand, addressing this issue in the population of public libraries in Isfahan province makes the subject of this research novel. The findings of this study can pave the way for librarians and library managers to improve the desired work environment.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between knowledge management and organizational learning among public librarians in Fars province.
Method: This study is an applied study which was conducted using the descriptive-correlational method. The statistical population included all librarians of public libraries in Fars province in 1400 (322 people), from whom 175 librarians were selected as the research sample using simple random sampling. In order to collect people's opinions, Bukowitz and Williams (1999) standard knowledge management questionnaire and organizational learning questionnaire based on Neefe theory (2001) were used. In order to analyze the data, SPSS software version 22. and descriptive statistical methods such as frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and in inferential statistics, Pearson correlation test and multiple linear regression were used.
Findings: The results of correlation coefficient showed that there was a significant relationship between knowledge management (KM) and organizational learning (OL) among the librarians of public libraries in Fars province. Furthermore, among KM’s components, knowledge production and consolidation and sharing had the most correlation with OL (respectively 0.900 and 0/898 correlation coefficients). Moreover, the result of multiple linear regression showed that there is a 100-percent common variance between KM and OL. The production and consolidation component is the strongest predictor for OL (Beta=0.197). This research showed that knowledge production and consolidation component (acquisition of required skills in accordance with organizational goals) and knowledge sharing (transfer and sharing of effective individual and organizational experiences) have the greatest relationship and impact on the promotion and improvement of OL.
Originality/value: The issue of knowledge management has been an issue of concern in public library literature in recent years. However, the relationship between knowledge management and organizational learning has not been studied much; In addition, examining this issue among the community of public library librarians of Fars province has been the focus of attention in the present study. The results of this research can pave the way for library managers to try to improve knowledge and knowledge management that has led to organizational learning by planning, appropriate policies, and providing standards.

Abstract

Purpose: The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the level of participation of public library librarians in Tehran in online social networks to provide services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Method: This research is applied in terms of purpose and was conducted using a survey method. The research population at the time of the research (July and August 2023) included all the librarians of public libraries in Tehran (152 people) from whom a sample of 109 people was selected according to Morgan’s table, and 105 questionnaires were analyzed in the final analysis. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire. Data analysis was done at two levels of descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS (version 26). In order to check the average difference between the main research variables, one-way analysis of variance parametric test was used.

Findings: The results showed that the librarians had the greatest knowledge about "Bale" messenger and the lowest knowledge about "SoroushPlus". The level of knowledge of librarians regarding social networking tools and the level of influence of the organization on their knowledge of tools has been lower than the average level. The level of necessity and acceptance of social networking tools is "high" and the level of use of these tools by librarians is "moderate". There was a significant difference between the average opinions of librarians about knowledge and acceptance as well as acceptance and use of these networks, while no significant difference was observed between the average opinions of participants about the two variables of knowledge and use of online social networks.
Originality/value: Although according to the results of this research, the level of influence of the organization in the librarians’ knowledge of social networking tools is reported to be lower than average, and the level of influence of the organization in the knowledge of content production tools in these sites is reported to be small, the role of the organization in the librarians’ knowledge cannot be ignored. Therefore, the results of this research, by determining the attitude of the research population towards social networking sites, the extent of acceptance and use of these sites by them and identifying the weaknesses and strengths of public libraries in using social networking sites, can be applied by managers and planners of public libraries in order to provide a suitable platform for using the social networking sites, remove barriers to using them, and improve information service.

Abstract

Objective: Despite the growth of practical experiences, especially in recent years, there is not much knowledge about the outreach services of Iran public libraries. In this regard, the main objective of this research is to identify the themes related to outreach services in Iranian public libraries.
Method: The present research is qualitative and was conducted using the method of thematic analysis of the news published on the IPLF’s website. Based on the predefined criteria, 37 eligible news items were examined. The data were analyzed and examined using MAXQDA software (2019 version).
Results: According to the reviewed news, five main themes were identified: "social inclusion", "creation of social capital", "strengthening social well-being", "promoting reading culture", and "strengthening community values". The two themes of "social inclusion" and "creation of social capital" were the focus of 95% and 65% of the news about outreach services, respectively. Additionally, the categories of "focus on deprivation" and "creating social joy" were reflected in 14% and 13% of the news items, respectively, more than other categories.
Conclusions: This study is among the first research efforts to examine the themes related to outreach services in public libraries. The identified themes, largely linked to the social responsibility of public libraries, indicate the "social value and goodness" of these organizations within communities. It is evident that the findings of this research can serve as a basis for designing a model for library outreach services. Furthermore, attention to this matter could lead to planning and policymaking by public libraries to address unserved communities.
