Abstract
Women constitute 48.42% of the Iranian population. They could be considered as one of the factors effectively contributing to development. In addition to the traditional major role they have in family and society growth, women also play a high-profile role in scientific and research areas. To clearly define the real status of women within the society, their issues must be investigated. One source for such investigations is the works written by women. The present investigation is a survey that aims at studying women’s article contribution in seven LIS journals between 1968 and 1999. Findings indicated that the articles contributed by the women comprise 495 or 34.83% of the total articles surveyed. Of 958 articles authored, 31.32% and of 463 articles translated, 42.12% were produced by women. The highest rate of contribution had been in 1997 with 56 titles. It is concluded that like other fields, women contribution to LIS journals in the period spanning 1968 to 1999 was on the rise as like other fields.
