Abstract
Public libraries are responsible for providing services to all members of society. In this regard, the population size is the most important parameter for establishing public libraries, and their resources should be provided according to the composition and structure of the population. In this article, by looking at the population statistics of Iran, first the population's access to public libraries in two areas, urban and rural, is examined. Then, the role of demographic components such as age, gender, literacy, religion, and type of activity in determining the type of need for public library resources and services is examined.
