Abstract
Although there is no profession that does not need an ethical system, this is especially true in service professions such as librarianship and information.However, there is a noticeable lack of training programs in the field of teaching professional ethics to librarians.From the perspective of this article, the formulation of professional ethics goes beyond writing a set of dos and don’ts.Any dos and don’ts that do not have a well-founded philosophical basis will remain a prescriptive rule.Accordingly, the author has proposed a theory called “Theory of Balanced Function of Libraries” as a cornerstone for the formulation and training of professional ethics for librarians and information workers.
