Library and information science suffers from a lack of theoretical foundations.Changing the name alone does not solve the problem. In fact, library science is neither a worthy name for this field nor does it correspond to its concept in terms of content.Although in the Western world, with the spread of the new industrial wave and the increasing need of researchers to find knowledge, libraries have enjoyed a renewed boom as a place to present scientific findings, but with the emergence of information technology and the power of disseminating information through the use of new electronic and optical tools, this attention and boom have been challenged. To the extent that the necessity of the existence of the library in its traditional form has been questioned. This unkindness occurred while the foundation of the new technology was also based on classification. In this article, the author examines the field of library and information science from six aspects and makes suggestions about them. These six aspects are: first, the origin of the concept of library and information science, second, its place in the tree of knowledge, third, a comprehensive and restrictive definition of this field, fourth, the scope of its presence and influence, fifth, a name proposal for it, and finally, a name proposal for the professions for which this field is required to train individuals. The research method in this study is induction, comparative study, and to some extent content analysis.
