Abstract

Purpose: Bibliotherapy was originally used to treat emotional problems in adults, but during the second half of the 19th century, the theoretical and practical foundations and instructions for its use grew widely. Now, bibliotherapy is a prominent strategy that is not only used to treat clinical problems, but also is cosidered a method that can be effective in guiding clients by using the book to meet their needs. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of experimental intervention of group bibliotherapy on the Resilience and life expectancy of children with cancer in Besat Hospital in Hamadan in the process of improving their health status.
Method: This research is a quasi-experimental study using a pretest-posttest on two groups, i.e. an experimental group and a control group. For the experimental group, several bivliotherapic sessions were held while no intervention more than the usual practices in the research environment were made. The research sample included 30 children afflicted with cancer, aged 10 to 14 who were in an initial stage of the disease and had completed at least one course of chemotherapy. The research instrument consists of two questionnaires: Conner's perseverance and Schneider's life expectancy. The experimental group underwent a group bibliotherapic intervention in eight sessions. Two books, namely Living with Chronic Pain: An Approach Based on Accepting the herapist's Guide and Patient Workbook by Kevin Wells and John Sorrell (2011) and Practical Pain Management Handbook: A Positive Attitude Toward Adapting to Chronic Pain by Michael Nicholas (2008), were the researchers' guide in this bibliotherapy. Data analysis was done using an independent t-test and a covariance analysis in the SPSS software.
Findings: Results of the independent t-test showed that there is a significant difference between the mean scores of the two variables of resilience and life expectancy in the control and experimental groups. Furthermore, the effect of this kind of bibliotherapy on the life expectancy in the children afflicted with cancer was 43.6% and its effect on resilience was 64.1%. Moreover, all the assumptions related to the analysis of covariance have been fulfilled
Originality/value: The current research is the first research carried out on the effect of group bibliotherapy on the level of resilience and life expectancy of children afflicted with cancer, while considering the positive effects of bibliotherapy, it can be one of the services of public libraries for patients.

The therapist researchers used two books as My Graceful Life: The Most Effective Strategies for Self-Analysis and Enriching Relationships with Others written by Pearson-Carroll, Mar and the book Awakening the Inner Hero. by Patricia Addson (2014). Data analysis was done using simple multivariate covariance analysis (mancova) in spss statistical software.
Findings: Results of The results showed that there was a significant difference between the mean scores of the twocomponents, feeling of mental health and quality of life in the control and experimental groups. Also, the results of analysis of covariance showed the effect of bibliotherapy on increasing the physical health Public Librarians of the province 0.258%, mental health 0.299%, social relations 0.411%, and the effect of bibliotherapy on quality The total was 0.480 percent.

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of bibliotherapy on the assertiveness of low-assertive elementary school students.
MethodThe present study is a quasi-experimental pre-test-post-test design with control and follow-up groups. The statistical population for the study consisted of shy female students in the fourth grade of a primary school in Qaen City. The researchers used purposeful sampling to select the sample. An intervention using bibliotherapy was administered to the experimental group over 8 sessions, each involving the reading of a storybook for 45 minutes, twice a week. The control group did not receive any intervention. The researchers employed covariance analysis and repeated measurement to test their hypotheses.
Findings: The experimental group improved significantly over the control group during the post-test phase. The results also demonstrated that this improvement was sustained during the follow-up phase. These findings suggest that group bibliotherapy is an effective approach for enhancing and maintaining bold behaviour in children who struggle with this skill.
Conclusion: It is crucial to utilize techniques that facilitate communication between children and their therapists, and in this study, story therapy through bibliotherapy was found to provide an opportunity for children to overcome their limitations. The current research utilized the bibliotherapy approach, specifically story therapy, to offer a chance for children lacking courage to address their vulnerabilities. The potential factors contributing to this progress can be identified in the characteristics of story therapy as highlighted by experts.
