Purpose: Plagiarism in the general sense refers to the appropriation of the words or thoughts of others, whether in the form of words and sounds or in the form of shapes, roles and designs. Despite the importance of this issue in Iran's scientific environment, it is not clear to what extent the Iranian legislator has paid attention to this issue and where are the key gaps. The purpose of this research is to investigate plagiarism in Iran's laws and regulations.
Method: To answer the questions, the present research has analyzed the most key laws and regulations of Iran and Iranian institutions using the "document analysis" method. The society of this research was Iran's laws and regulations until the beginning of 1401.
Findings: Based on the findings of this research, scientific plagiarism can be classified with at least six different approaches. The findings show that scientific plagiarism has been considered by the legislator in at least 10 laws in Iran; From the general punishment law (approved on 10/5/1310) to the law on how to punish persons who engage in unauthorized activities in audiovisual matters (approved on 16/10/1386). In addition, regulations have been approved in various ministries and institutions in this field.
Originality: Although plagiarism has been the focus of the Iranian legislator, it is believed that this attention has not been as effective as it should be. In addition to laws and regulations, plagiarism should be prevented with other approaches.
