Applying Social Exchange Theory in the Development of Reading book Culture

Abstract

Social world, according to Homans, needs active people who  exchange favors. The exchange theory considers this activeness is based upon two features: "carpediem and pain avoidance" and" intellectualism". Homans,   based upon these general features, presents six dimensions. In this essay, supposing that reading is a social phenomenon and humans are wise and calculating creatures, the relation between exchange theory principles and reading activity. Also in addition to presenting Hamans  six categories and referring to every of  them, the society's reading status is interpreted and consequently, three steps are suggested to apply the exchange theory better in developing the reading culture.
