ICT Usage Rate of Professors of Library and Information Science at Government Sponsored and Payām-e Noor Universities: A student perspective

Abstract
The present study intends to study the level of ICT and instructional technologies usage by the LIS professors at government sponsored Universities in metropolitan Tehran and the Payām-e Noor Universities located at provincial capitals. A comparative-survey method was applied using random cluster sampling. A questionnaire was distributed among 174 students universities in Tehran and 261 was given to students in payām-e noor universities in provincial capitals. SPSS was employed for statistical analysis. Findings indicated that ICT usage rate stands at an average 2.91 in government universities while it is 2.18 in Payām-e Noor Universities.  The rate of instructional CD’s usage by government university professors was relatively low at 2.43 while it is low at 1.97 at Payām-e Noor universities. 80% of Payām-e Noor students and 58% of government universities students believe that their instructors do not employ electronic resources in their teaching. Computer usage among payām-e Noor instructors was an average 2.15 while the figure for government universities was 3.13. Finally instructors’ use of presentation tools was an average 2.16 for Payām-e Noor universities and 3.25 for government universities. The findings indicate that the ICT and Instructional technology utilization by instructors is much higher for the government universities than Payām-e Noor universities. Therefore it is necessary for the latter to pay closer attention to optimal use of instructional media in teaching
