The most important of these functions are education and entertainment.<br /><strong>Method:</strong> The present article is an opinion article in which the author provides some definitions in a particular subject based upon his academic experience.<br /><strong>Findings:</strong> An analysis of library functions shows that the two functions of education and entertainment are not the authentic functions for libraries because, with regard to the first function, educational organizations have this responsibility. Also, regarding the second function, entertainment centers are responsible. So, these two functions cannot be the main functions of libraries. This article refers to the role of reading as a race and suggests that the main functions of libraries are creating an environment or a situation for intellectual races and scientific efforts by providing the necessary facilities, classifying and leveling the concepts and resources, studying actual and the potential addressees, leveling members and nonmembers in connection with their different abilities, and adjusting categorized resources based on user’s interests through consultation. These are some of the genuine functions of libraries which are also performed in athletic environments.<br /><strong>Originality/Value:</strong>  The novelty of the present article lies in its new points of view of library functions. The paper attempts to review the functions that have been traditionally considered for libraries and also tries to define some new functions for them. در این مقاله مؤلف به‌طور انتقادی درباره کارکردهای تعریف شده‌ای که تاکنون برای کتابخانه‌ها عنوان شده، که مهم‌ترین این کارکردها آموزش و سرگرمی است، بحث می‌کند.<br /><strong>روش:</strong> مقاله حاضر از نوع مقاله نظری (<span dir="LTR">Opinion Article</span>) است که طی آن، مؤلف با استناد به تجارب علمی خود، به ارائه تعاریفی در حوزه موضوعی خاص می‌پردازد.<br /><strong>یافته‌ها:</strong> تحلیل کارکردها نشان‌ می‌دهد که دو کارکرد آموزش و سرگرمی کارکردی اصیل برای کتابخانه‌ها نیستند؛ زیرا در اولی سازمان‌های آموزشی رسمی مسئولیت آن را به عهده دارند و در دومی مراکز تفریحی مسئول آن‌ هستند و این دو نمی‌توانند به عنوان کارکردی اصلی برای کتابخانه تلقی شوند. در این مقاله به نقش مطالعه که نوعی مسابقه است اشاره می‌شود و این‌که کارکرد اصلی کتابخانه‌ها ایجاد و گسترش محیطی برای مسابقه فکری و تلاش علمی است که با فراهم آوردن امکانات لازم، طبقه‌بندی و سطح‌بندی مفاهیم و منابع از یک طرف، مطالعه بر روی مخاطبان بالقوه و بالفعل و سطح‌بندی اعضا و غیراعضا به‌لحاظ توانایی‌های مختلف جهت مطالعه و فراهم آوردن زمینه مطالعه از طرف دیگر، و انطباق منابع دسته‌بندی شده با سلائق و علائق افراد بررسی شده از طریق مشاوره از طرف سوم کارکردی اصیل برای کتابخانه‌هاست؛ همچنان‌که در محیط‌های ورزشی چنین عمل می‌شود.<br /><strong>اصالت/ارزش:</strong> بداعت مقاله حاضر در نگاه جدیدی است که به کارکردهای کتابخانه‌ها شده است. در مقاله حاضر سعی شده تا با نقد کارکردهایی که به طور سنتی برای کتابخانه‌ها در نظر گرفته‌اند، با نگاهی به معنای مطالعه، کارکردهای جدیدی برای کتابخانه‌ها تعریف شود. https://publij.ir/article_727206_c7dc40f25f66c7ff4193c1e1a5d0f44f.pdf
