Proposing a New Model in Knowledge Management

Purpose: the aim of this article is to revise the definition of the knowledge management and propose a new model.
Methodology: this study depends on library texts and reviewing the existing models.
Findings: the author argues that the knowledge is taken from the reality outside and it is the world of reality that is the first founder of our perception and knowledge. We capture the knowledge from the nature and by imitation, copying and processing we use it. That is we with our previous experiences process our perception and then we presents it to others, and ask them by communication to complete it. In this regard, two factors are very important and impressive in our knowledge shaping. One is intellectual capital and the other is social one. Useful knowledge is the one which we ought to manage it in order to use it in the best way and in suitable time, economically. The author proposes an octagonal model which emphasizes on the world of reality, then on intellectual and social capitals.
Originality/Value: this approach is new and no one has mentioned it as far as I know.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship between dimensions of organizational structure and variables of the implementation of knowledge management in Mashhad public libraries.
Methodology: A survey of 106 librarians within public libraries of Mashhad was used for this study. Robbins standard questionnaire was used to collect data about variables of organizational structure and the Nonaka and Taguchi standard questionnaire was used to collect data about different aspects of knowledge management implementation. Then, the research hypotheses were tested using structural equation modelling by Smart PlS software.
Findings: The findings of this study showed that organizational structure variables (centralization, formalization and complexity) are negatively related to dimensions of knowledge management implementation variables (socialization, internalization, externalization and combination) in public libraries of Mashhad. Besides, the relationship between formalization and socialization was not confirmed.
Originality/value: The organizational structure is important factor in the effectiveness of an organization in knowledge management implementation. The relationship between variables of the organizational structure and knowledge management dimensions, especially in knowledge-based organizations like public libraries, can provide an appropriate instruction for managers to optimize workers authorities, enforcement of rules and regulations and the number of jobs in the organization.

Modeling the Effect of Entrepreneurial Orientation on Organizational Performance of Iran Public Libraries Foundation

Purpose: The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of entrepreneurial orientation on organizational performance in Iran public libraries Foundation.
Methodology: The present study is an applied research. The mode of control variables is Non-experimental and the method of data collection is survey. This research is typically based on structural equation modeling. The main instrument for data collection was a questionnaire with 15 questions for entrepreneurial orientation and 12 questions for organizational performance. The study population consisted of all employees in the Iran public libraries Foundation. Using simple random sampling, 500 as the sample chosen and research questionnaire was distributed among them. Data were analyzed using LISREL and SPSS software’s.
Findings: The results of the entrepreneurial orientation model showed that five dimensions of innovation, risk taking, competitive aggressiveness, leadership and independence are major factors influencing on establishment of the entrepreneurial orientation in the Iran public libraries Foundation. Results indicated that correlation of innovation with entrepreneurship and the impact that it has on entrepreneurship is more than risk taking, competitive aggressiveness, leadership and independence. Also the results of organizational performance model showed that Efficiency Programs, Effectiveness of activities, Patrons Satisfaction and employee satisfaction explain the organizational performance of the Iran public libraries Foundation. Finally, the results of the structural model showed that entrepreneurial orientation has a significantly positive effect on organizational performance of Iran public libraries Foundation.
Originality/Value: The present study is a comprehensive study that investigates the effects of entrepreneurial orientation on organizational performance Iran public libraries Foundation. Therefore, administrators, policy makers and Planners can use the results of this research will enhance the effectiveness of public library services.

Designing Fuzzy Multiple Attribute Decision Making Model for the Selection of Public Library Managers on the Basis of Perspectives of Librarians

Purpose: We aimed to determine the degree of importance and prioritize management traits by means of decision making models using Fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making procedure and provide a suitable model to identify factors affecting the selection of directors of the public libraries on the basis of the librarian's perspectives.
Methodology: In this study, we used a descriptive survey research method and a case study. This research has investigated two groups: first group included all librarians with at least five years precedency in the work of public librarianship in Guilan public libraries and the second group, included experts in the field of library and information sciences, who have had PhD degree and have had experience of working in libraries. We used SPSS19 for analyzing extracted data.
Findings: results showed that the measure namely “knowledge and expertise” with normal weight 0/275 was the most important trait for election of a director. Other measures sequently were “managerial skills” with a normal weight of 0/201, “insight and vision” with normal weight of 0/181, “personality” with normal weight of 0/127, “objectivity” with normal weight of 0/121, and a normal-weight measures “professional reputation” with normal weight of 0/103.
Originality/value: Given the importance of the selection of managers in organizations, having a measurable tool for identifying potential options is a necessity in all organizations, especially public libraries as cultural foundations.

A Survey of Relationship between Organizational Culture and Knowledge Management in Kermanshah Province Public Libraries

Purpose: The present paper mainly aims to identify the relationship between organizational culture and knowledge management in Kermanshah province public libraries.
Methodology: this research implemented by survey method. Data collection instruments to measure the study variables include: 1) Dennison Organization Culture Questionnaire to measure organizational culture in indices such as involvement, adaptability, mission and integration. Knowledge Management Questionnaire as a comprehensive and standardized questionnaire in the area of knowledge management. Based on the most recent statistics until the end of November 2013, the community of study was composed of 85 librarians in Kermanshah public libraries. By considering the limited number of these librarians, sampling method was not used, and the total population of the study was studied, i.e. census method was used. Finally, 82 questionnaires were collected. To analyze data, inferential and descriptive statistics was applied. In the descriptive statistics level, some indices including frequency, median and mean was used and in inferential statistics, indices such as Pearson correlation coefficient, t-test for single sample and normality test for Kolmogorov Smirnov was used.
Findings: findings indicated that the level of organizational culture and knowledge management in Kermanshah public libraries was average and there was a significant relationship between organizational culture and knowledge management. Also, there was a significant relationship between involvement, adaptability, mission and integration and knowledge management. Finally, there was no significant difference between dimensions of organizational culture and knowledge management, based on the demographic variables (gender, age, education, work experience, etc).
Originality/Value: On the basis of this research, we can approvingly state that for the creation and improvement of knowledge management tools in Iran Public Libraries Foundation, Organizational Culture is a meaningful factor that most be considered across the policy making and implementation.

Assessing the Information Needs of Retirees in Bojnourd Education Office; An Introduction to Design Outreach Library Services

Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the information needs of education office retirees of Bojnourd city as introduction to design outreach library services to them.
Methodology: This survey is an applied research. The statistical population consisted of all retirees in Education Department of Bojnourd city until 2013. Estimated sample size was 130 and cluster sampling was adopted. Data were collected through a researcher made questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of 19 statements for assessing four group information needs, including individual needs, educational, cultural-social needs, political and religious needs. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS).
Findings: Among the four group information needs, the priority of the retirees' needs was as follows, respectively: individual needs, cultural-social needs, political needs, and educational and religious needs. The retirees met their information needs from television mostly. A small percent of retirees (26/9%) was member of a public library and majority of them (76/9%) had not used public library services. The retirees were using public library rarely. Distance from the library was the major reason for not using the library. Borrowing books was the main reason for using the library. Familiarity of the retirees with public library and its services was lower than the average (2/64%), and necessity of public library services was more than averages (4/20%) from the retirees' perspective.
Originality/value: The findings of this study can help authorities to meet the information needs of a special group, retirees. Since this study makes the identification of the information needs of retirees, public libraries are able to make decisions to overcome the potential shortcomings, define proper collection development policies, and improve channels of access to information.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between Cultural Intelligence and its components with librarians' job performance in the public libraries of Khuzestan.
Methodology: This study is a descriptive correctional research that applied with survey method. The population is consisted of the whole librarians employing in the public libraries of Khuzestan (S=230), from which, by using the Krejcie & Morgan table, a 145 people sample were selected through stratified random sampling method. To measure the cultural intelligence and job performance, the questionnaires of Van Dyne and Ang (2004), and Farajpahlou and et al (1391) were used respectively. In order to test the research hypotheses, multiple regression and Pearson correlation coefficients were used.
Findings: The results showed that between cultural intelligence (by cognitive and metacognitive) and librarians' job performance in the public libraries of Khuzestan, there is a significant positive relationship. Also the components of cultural intelligence (cognitive, metacognitive, motivational and behavioral) cognitive, metacognitive and motivational cultural intelligence have a significant positive relationship with job Performance of librarians.
Originality/Value: On the basis of this research, we can approvingly said that for create any increase in the job performance of public librarians, directors must invoke the cultural intelligence of them as an important priority.

Studying of the Librarian's Social Status in Iran (The Case Study of South East Provinces of Iran)

Purpose: The Current research was directed towards determining the social statues of the librarian from the point of view of the inhabitants in the south east provinces of Iran.
Methodology: This survey was carried out on the pattern of the descriptive method. The Study was carried out in 2013. Our community of study was the people of Zahedan, Kerman and Birjand. Our sample was 800 people who were Cluster- randomly chosen among the different studied jobs and we used a researcher-made questionnaire for collecting data.
Findings: The findings of the survey showed that social status of the librarians was in the mediocre level. The social status of academic librarians was higher than the social status of public librarians in the viewpoint of people. The community of research believed that the important factors to increase social status of librarians were as follows: The sense responsibility, the sufficient information literature of the librarians, having information knowledge to reply user, and enough skills of communication with users.
Originality/Value: By Studying social statutes and extracting effective factors determining social statues librarians, the professional communities and directors can concentrate on the ingredient elements.

Effectiveness of Educational Courses for Public Librarians in East Azerbaijan Province and Suggestions for Improvement

Purpose: This study aimed at the evaluation of the effectiveness of educational courses held for public librarians in east Azerbaijan province and proposes appropriate solutions for improvement the courses.
Methodology: This research implemented using survey method. Kirk-Patrick model was used for evaluation and collecting data through a questionnaire that had 28 questions. The reliability coefficient of this tool was 0/94 and Validity of it, approved by selected experts. The community of study consisted of all employees participated in educational courses in public libraries in east Azerbaijan province (330 people), and 178 ones were selected randomly as sample to fill questionnaire. To analyze the extracted data, we used descriptive and inferential statistics (one-sample t-test and ANOVA).
Results: Results showed that the “Response” dimension with average score of 22/78 with 4/24 Standard Deviation (SD) had the highest effectiveness. “Results” dimension was in the lowest level with the average score of 12/01 and 4/906 SD. Also the results of comparison between learners' average scores of effectiveness, considering the variables namely gender and field of study, showed that there was significant difference between the views of learners.
Originality/Value: Originality of this research was in the reveal of the weakness in the applicability of educational courses in Iran Public Libraries Foundation and the need for concentrating on objective results.
